About Boston Red Sox

The rich Boston Red Sox history goes back to 1901 when they were known in the American League as the Boston Americans and played as such until 1907. In the 1903 season, the Sox won the first modern World Series as they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. They again recaptured the World Series Title in 1912.

Many big players have suited up for the Sox to include Wade Boggs, Jimmy Collins, Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Rick Ferrell, Carlton Fisk, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Harry Hooper, Jim Rice, Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski.

The franchise has won seven World Series Titles (1903, 12, 15, 16, 18, 2004 & 2007), have won twelve AL Pennants, six East Division Titles and have made the playoffs via the Wild Card seven times.

The franchise has played in only two parks, Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds between 1901 and 1911, and Fenway Park from 1912 until Present.

Past seasons

The 109th season for your Boston Redsox opens and closes against the defending World Series Champion New York Yankees, the first time since 1950.

The team has had a rough start to the season and they are currently sitting at 11-14 but Red Sox Jason Varitek thinks things will improve. "We haven't quite clicked, but we're better than our record. And we will be better," Varitek said recently.

The team sports a pitching rotation of Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Tim Wakefield, Clay Buchholz and Daisuke Matsuzaka.

So come on out, get your tickets and support your Boston Red Sox as they attempt to clinch their 8th Fall Classic.

Coming off a loss in the 2008 ALCS to the Tampa Bay Rays hoped to get back to the championship series in 2009. While finishing behind the New York Yankees with a 95-67 record the Sox managed to make it to the Wild Card Series and have made the playoffs every season since 2003.

Led by the stellar pitching of Jon Lester and Josh Beckett the Red Sox are poised to win their third World Series since 2004. Led by Terry Francona and Theo Epstein, the Sox must get through the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim first.
